Make your own Thieves Laundry Detergent with Soap Nuts Liquid. Via #youngliving #thievesoil #laundry #soapnuts

What you need:

  • 12 -15 whole soap nuts (get them here)
  • 8 cups (2 quarts) water
  • 1 Tbsp table salt (to preserve liquid)
  • 1/4 cup Borax or washing soda (optional, used as a cleaning boost)
  • 15-20 drops of Thieves essential oil (We use Young Living essential oils. For more info about these oils, click here.)

In a large pot, add the soap nuts and the water. Turn it on to medium high heat, and once it starts bubbling, let it boil for 30 minutes. When it has cooled a bit, add the salt and Borax or washing soda if using. Stir to dissolve. Remove the soap nuts and either compost, or use again for another batch of soap nuts laundry liquid. When it has cooled completely, add the Thieves essential oil. Pour into a recycled laundry detergent bottle or glass mason jar. Shake before use. Use 1/2 cup liquid per regular size load of laundry.

Why Use Thieves Essential Oil?

Do you know the history of Thieves essential oil?

During the 14th century, the Bubonic Plague swept through Europe killing an estimated   25 million people.  This bacterial infection was caused by Yersinia pestis and was highly contagious, with a high fatality rate.

Amidst all the death, there were stories of French thieves surviving and robbing those who had died. It is said that they had access to various herbs, spices and vinegar, and when combined, they could get near infected people or bodies without contracting the infection themselves. The government took notice and forced them to give up their secret blend or be hanged. They chose to hand it over, and we are still using that blend today!

The Thieves blend contains the essential oils of clove, lemon, cinnamon bark, eucalyptus radiata and rosemary. Together, these oils have been found to be highly effective against bacteria, and will disinfect your house and home, and laundry from pathogens that could make you sick.

 Need Fabric Softener Sheets?

Add 2 or 3 drops of Thieves essential oil on a damp washcloth or rag and throw into the dryer with your laundry. Your clothes will smell wonderful! You can also use a large sheet of tinfoil wadded up to help get rid of static.
